Suffering comes in so many forms that this suggestion
can’t always apply, but when you can do so, offer the
short
Sacrifice Prayer
and/or the
Penance Prayer
with your suffering.
These prayers are usually “easier” to offer when the sacrifice is some form of chronic pain, such as a toothache or backache or even “simple” fatigue.
Chronic suffering could also involve emotional pain, such as profound sorrow from the loss of a loved one or even a loved one who is on the wrong path in life.
The pain of suffering is so variable, however,
and that’s why the
morning offering is a good
practice as soon as
you’re awake enough to pray it, so that everything
for the day belongs to God. Perhaps your morning
offering could also include the more formal
Sacrifice Prayer
or the
Penance Prayer
, which are
similar, so you don’t need both. If you can’t remember
these prayers, simply say “Oh God, I give You all my
suffering today; please save souls, especially my own.”
