The three young seers at Fatima were never the same after the
vision of hell in July, 1917. They saw the reality of eternal
agony, and they responded with maturity that is possible even
for someone their ages (10, 9, and 7). And sadly for us, their
reaction was much wiser and more mature than what ours often is.
And these three children were not the first or last people to see
hell; St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) and St. Faustina (1905-1938) [and likely others]
also had this
challenging privilege.
They came away as even better people and with more wisdom to
share with us, including the fact that many people are in hell
because they didn’t even believe that hell was real, thus choosing
evil at least in part because of their disbelief .
